CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
It is necessary that each instructor set up rules to establish an atmosphere that elicits appropriate
behavior. Good discipline is required for effective teaching and learning. Each instructor is expected
to maintain a classroom climate and management system conducive to student learning. Poor
classroom management may result in a write up.
At SASL, CHAMPS will be implemented and followed school wide.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
There are a number of clubs and organizations offered to students. Most are student driven. Faculty
members are encouraged to sponsor clubs, organizations, events or sports, if requested by students.
CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT
All students of SCPA/SASL must abide by the minimum behavioral standards set forth in the
SCPA/SASL Code of Student Conduct, the SCPA/SASL Student and Parent Handbook, Somerset Code of
Excellence, the Student Contract, the Dress Code and the Parent Contract. Please refer to all of these
documents for additional information. All employees are expected to assist in enforcement of such.
COMMUNICATION
Faculty should abstain from relationships with students on social media. Email communication
between students and teachers is only permitted through the school created email accounts.
CONFERENCES
Parent Teacher Conferences will be scheduled after school. Instructors need to be available for parent
conferences, which will be arranged by the guidance counselors and/or administrators as needed. It is
the instructor’s professional responsibility to attend scheduled conferences. Please refer to the
MEETINGS section. Instructors are required to make regular contact with parents/guardians and to
log the time, date and details of the contact in the contact log, which should be a tab in the lesson plan
binder. An email should be sent each time a student falls below a C. Instructors will arrive to the
PTC with a copy of the student's gradebook and work samples, if needed. Instructors must also abide
by proper PTC protocol: be professional; respect everyone’s time; never discuss students by name
other than the student for whom the conference is about.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Personnel must report to administrators any situation that may involve a violation of federal, state, or
local laws. The principal or designee shall involve the police, the SCPA/SASL School Police, and the
parents of the student(s) involved, as appropriate. Faculty are encouraged and expected to caution
students of confidentiality guidelines. When the student’s situation indicates that there is clear and
imminent danger to self or others--such as a suicide threat or a threat of bodily harm—mandatory
reporting will occur. Instructors are to report incidents to the counselor or available administrator
and/or school police, who will then take action and inform administration or other pertinent parties.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of
student education records. You may not discuss student information, grades or otherwise, with any
party who is not the legal guardian of the student.
