CUMULATIVE RECORDS
All cumulative records are to be kept in the administration office alphabetically in locked fireproof
file cabinets. These can be retrieved by signing them out on the sign-out form on top of the file
cabinet. Only instructors/guidance may handle or sign these records out. Files should be returned no
later than 4:00 p.m. the day they are checked out.
Each instructor is expected to maintain accurate, complete, up-to-date records for each student. Each
instructor is expected to protect the accuracy and privacy of the information contained in the student
educational records.
DISCIPLINE
SCPA and SASL follow the SCPA/SASL Codes of Student Conduct and Discipline Matrix as well as
SCPA/SASL Progressive Discipline Plan. All instructors at SCPA are expected to create a discipline
plan as part of their classroom management strategies. The information in the plan must be approved
by the administration and be available to both student and parents. The use of the classroom plan
must be consistent amongst all students in the classroom. All instructors at SASL are expected to
implement and follow CHAMPS procedures, school wide, with fidelity. If a disciplinary situation
arises which an instructor cannot resolve, the instructor should seek assistance from administration or
the Dean of Discipline. Discipline referrals to Dean or administration are to be sent on a Discipline
Referral form (available in the One Drive), and parent contact must be made by issuer. Discipline
Referrals should be used as infrequently as possible. When an instructor writes a Referral, the
instructor may be sending a message to the student that either the instructor lacks the authority to
handle the situation, or that the student is not worth the time the instructor would need to take to
handle the situation. Mutual respect will go far to prevent discipline issues. Academic infractions,
such as not completing class or homework assignments, are to be handled by instructor/parent
conferences. Chronic cases should be made known to guidance or administration. Every staff member
is expected to correct disciplinary problems they may observe outside of their classroom, providing
no other instructor is directly in charge of the situation.
Under no circumstances is an instructor allowed to inappropriately touch a student, or use corporal
punishment as a means to discipline. Instructors and students must foster a mutual respect for one
another. Never use physical punishment or harsh verbal language toward a student. Methods of
positive reinforcement/rewards and/or loss of privileges are strongly encouraged. Further, students
cannot be denied lunch as a form of punishment, although instructors may impose lunch detentions,
during which the student is required to eat lunch in the classroom with the instructor.
To detain students after school as a disciplinary measure, parents must be notified by telephone or in
writing a minimum of 24 hours before the child is to be kept after school. Documentation of such
notification must be kept in the instructor’s parent contact log. Instructors who impose an after-school
detention must complete a detention slip to be given to the student, and an email must be sent to the
dean using detention@cpatc.org on the SCPA campus. Students receiving detentions will report to
detention at 3:35 at SCPA and 3:05 at SASL on the designated detention day. On the SASL campus,
each teacher will provide their respective detention lists to the Vice Principal by noon on the day
before the designated detention day.
