MANAGING MATERIALS
Truth to Teach (Source)
Hebrews 11:3 ‘By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s
command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was
visible.’
God is the Creator. He is a Master Craftsman.
Genesis1:2; Genesis1:31 God brought and continues to bring beauty out of chaos.
Man has been created in the image of God. He has the potential to shape and
fashion materials and bring beauty out of chaos.
Exodus 31:1-6 Ability to work as a skilled craftsman may be a spiritual gift
equipping a person for special service to God.
A craftsman must know his materials, appreciating the texture, hardness, flexibility,
reaction to heat, reaction to water, of the material he is working with.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. For the children to become acquainted with the characteristics of particular
materials, eg metal, wood, plastic, rubber. (clay - this will be covered in art and
craft.)
2. For the children to be encouraged to respond to the materials, and express
likes and dislikes.
3. For the children to appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of
particular materials for particular purposes.
4. For the children to be encouraged to look to God for wisdom and inspiration
when involved in creating or inventing anything.
5. For the children to become aware of how to be responsible stewards of these
resources; renewing resources of wood i.e. planting trees; recycling e.g.
paper, glass, steel, etc.
