Science Y1 – Energy and movement – week 4
Follow up the children’s suggestions: e.g. use a crane/ trolley/ lorry. (These
all have wheels.)
Establish that wheels make for less friction as only a very small amount of a
wheel comes in contact with the surface of the ground, compared to the
much larger area of a box.
5. Over the years God has helped people discover and improve the design of
wheels. We don’t know who first invented them, but we know there were
various stages. Show and discuss the pictures on the worksheet:
• rollers – use the claves under the books to show how this worked
• wheels built around the object to be moved
• building a cart to be drawn by an animal
• lorry
6. These days there are many different things, which move on wheels. Colour the
pictures on the front of the sheet and then draw things with wheels on the back.
(Some children may appreciate seeing pictures of different types of vehicles to
help them with shape and details.) Remind children that God can help them solve
problems and be overcomers.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
For the children to be encouraged to look to God for the means to overcome, both in
their spiritual lives and when faced with practical problems.
