OVERCOMING FRICTION USING WHEELS
Truth to Teach (Source)
The Bible exhorts us to have an overcoming attitude and to overcome what is
working against the Kingdom of God. (Romans 12:21; Revelation 2-3) With regard to
movement, God has helped people overcome the negative effects of friction and
facilitate movement.
You need: wooden cylinders/claves (out of sight)
trolley for moving chairs (out of sight)
pictures of different vehicles
box of books
Way to Work (Means)
1. Recap: friction is a force working in the opposite direction to that causing
movement
rough surfaces or sticky surfaces give rise to more friction than
shiny surface for movement to take place, the friction must be
overcome by a bigger force.
2. It might seem that friction is something unhelpful. Actually, friction can be a
useful force. Without friction, if you gave something a push, it wouldn’t stop.
Without friction, we would not be able to walk; we would slide and fall.
Explain.
Things like boots and tyres are designed to give good grip so that we can
walk or drive safely even on slippery surfaces. Friction is a useful force here.
3. If you are wanting to move something really big and heavy, friction is always a
bit of a problem. Actually since the Fall, people have always been faced with
problems. So what should you do whenever you meet a problem? Burst into
tears and stamp your feet?!
God wants us to look to Him for wisdom to be able to solve problems, and to be
overcomers.
4. Here I have a box of books to move. Let’s pretend it is too heavy for me to
lift. Do we have any ideas on how we might solve this problem? It may be
appropriate to pray here.
