Men’s Shelter – Lobby
After processing the new residents, the Male Staff calls out, “Alonzo? Here’s
your linens and toiletries ...” He continues as he checks off Alonzo’s name, “... dinner’s
at 4:30. Light’s out by seven. “
“Yes, Sir. Thank you.”
Men’s Shelter – Sleeping Quarters
After dinner, Alonzo goes to his assigned bunk to lay down while most of the
residents are outside -- mingling, chatting or smoking. But another resident,
TERRENCE, 29, African-American, father of three -- asks to borrow his smartphone.
“Sorry to bother you, Bro. My phone’s dead and I need to call my woman to get me
another charger.”
Alonzo glares at him, gets up, reaches and lends him his phone, “sure thing.”
A few minutes later, “thanks, Bro ... Nice phone.” He returns the smartphone,
“I’m Terrence by the way.”
“No worries, Terrence. You may call me Al.”
LIGHTS OUT – NIGHT
Later, Alonzo’s smartphone buzzes, but he refuses to check it so that he does
not breach the Shelter’s rules. Immediately, he kills the power. And after a few turns,
