122 | N. PAUL ONUZURUIKE
At that moment, another RESIDENT -- rough-looking Caucasian male -- in his
40’s, but in decent attires walks up to them. When the resident speaks, some missing
teeth become noticeable. “Do you have light?”
“No, don’t smoke --"
“-- Common on man. You know we don’t smoke,” Sam frowns and rebukes
the for the interruption. Sam continues, “have you ever seen me with a cigarette?”
Feeling of repulsion, “ok, I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to bother you,” the Resident
apologizes. Without further ado, the Resident takes his leave -- as fast as his feet
could -- heading northwest where other smoking residents are gathered.
“Jesus Christ! These people with smoking ...” looks disgusted, “... can’t they
spend money on better things?” Without missing a beat, Sam continues where he left
off. “Not that I have, but I’ll have to kill you if you want to know.”
“Trust me, Mr. Rueben. Your secret’s safe.”
“Good. Let’s leave it at that. Laughing out loud, “you don’t want me sending
African Mafia after you ... Do you?”
“Trust me, Mr. Rueben, that won’t be necessary.”
“Good. But on a very serious note ...” glares at the smokers, “... My friend you
don’t want to be here.”
“Understood. I’ll work on it.”
