Hundred dollars. He checks his email a few minutes afterward, double clicks, and
downloads the attachment; then prints the eTicket -- using the "Print at Home"
option.
Later -- back at the Shelter -- Alonzo’s smartphone rings. He glares at the
number but couldn’t identify the number from the Caller ID. Hesitantly, he takes the
call. “This is Alonzo --"
“-- Is TERRY there?” a FEMALE voice asks.
“Who?”
“Terrence. Who ya think, muthafuk?”
“Excuse me? Stop texting and calling my --"
“-- Negro, what ya expect?” pauses, but continues. “Ya give him yo phone to
call me and leave me nasty messages. I’m returning same fuked-up texts.”
Meanwhile, Alonzo remains calm and mute -- believing his act of kindness was
between him and God -- not the strange Caller at the other end. “Well, ma’am ... Thank
you for the advice.” Reiterating his point, “please, don’t text or call this number. The
phone is mine. He’s not getting my phone again.”
Just then, an email alert comes through on his smartphone. It’s the
confirmation and eTicket for his nonrefundable bus reservation to Kansas City.
Much later, Alonzo starts packing his things. Soon, he expresses his gratitude
