128 | N. PAUL ONUZURUIKE
Josh looks at him -- reaches for his back pocket -- retrieves a Lincoln, and
hands it to Alonzo.
“Thank you,” handing over the laptop bag.
But Josh declines. “Sir, that’s a Top-Zip Laptop Messenger Bag. I’ve got one
just like it. It’s well over Seventy dollars. Keep it.”
“Yes, it is. Thank you for your generosity.” Alonzo returns to the Cashier and
hands him thirty-five dollars for his second luggage.
The Cashier takes the Lincoln, punches some number on the desktop, prints a
new tag, and hands Alonzo another luggage tag. Then, retrieving the PA mick, “please,
may I have your attention? I’m SORRY to announce that the Rogers, Joplin, Kansas
City bus is running a tad late.” The Cashier continues, “anticipated departure time is
9:00 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you.”
Alonzo appears frazzled from the latest announcement but stays on his seat.
9:40 PM – Outside the Bus Terminal. The bus pulls up. The middle-age
Caucasian Driver parks the bus, kills the ignition, and descends; then walks toward
the Main entrance.
Later -- once insider the Lobby -- the Bus Driver apologizes to the waiting
passengers. Afterward the weary passengers board the bus in a single-file format
while the Bus Driver loads their luggage. And without further delay, locks the bus,
reaches for the mick, and makes an announcement; then the bus departs for
Alexandria, Louisiana.
