“Over here.”
“Here are your receipt and luggage printout.”
“Thank you. Excuse me, but I’ve got two --"
“-- You get one luggage and a carry-on, Sir.” The Cashier continues, “your
laptop bag counts as a carry-on. Anything else will be an additional thirty-five
dollars.”
“I have thirty dollars and some loose change.”
“And what’s that got to do with me?”
“Could you please let me take my laptop with me?”
The Cashier’s not wanting to put up with the requests and questions gives
voice to his impatience with Alonzo. “No, you made the small luggage as your new
carry-on with the thirty-five-dollar payment.”
“But there’s nothing like that on your Website.”
“LOOK HERE, Sir ... I don’t make the rules. I just follow them like everyone
else.” He continues, “if you don’t like it ... Maybe you should have considered Amtrak
or better yet, flying to Kansas City.”
A look of astonishment, “are you serious?”
