HE NEXT DAY, ALONZO'S HAPPY WITH HIS PRODUCTIVITY, FOLLOWING
a succession of decent fares. Toward the close of business, his smartphone
starts buzzing just as he exists Steve Reynolds Boulevard. He glares at the
caller ID, and nebulously recollects the prefix, but not the phone number. He slows
down after making a right turn on to Beaver Ruin Road, and gradually pulls into the
parking lot of a Convenience Store on the 1500 Block of Beaver Ruin Road in
Norcross, GA; then takes the call on the fourth ring.
"This is Alonzo --" he speaks into the smartphone.
"-- Alonzo Thomas?" a soft female voice comes through the speakers.
