Champion of Champions
The Champion of Champions involves only the winners of li-
censed tournaments during the season with the winners tradi-
tionally qualifying to represent Ireland in the World
Championships. However, COVID disrupted the normal world
qualification criteria since only one Champion of Champions
event could be run rather than covering 2 years.
To some extent it proved a bonus since separate world
qualifiers were held in singles, pairs, triples and rinks to find
the second set of representatives.
In the last 16, the results were
Mark Sproule 9 David Bonner 2
Sean Breen 8 Gary Merron 7
Daniel O’Kane 10 Lynn Hamilton 4
Andrew Evans 10 John Quinn 7
Andrew Morrison 9 Mark Beattie 8
Alan Paul 11 Kevin Conroy 4
Raymond Stubbs w/o Damian McElroy
Singles Champion
Andrew Steel 5 Adam Rankin 12.
Sean Breen
In the quarter finals, 3 games were very keenly contested.
Daniel O’Kane had a 10 - 7 win over Andrew Evans, whilst Andy Morrison lost extremely close
game 8 - 9 on the very last bowl to Alan Paul, Adam Rankin also has a last end win over Raymond
Stubbs 9 - 7 while Sean Breen had a convincing 10 - 4 win over Mark Sproule.
At the semi-final stage, Sean Breen had a narrow 10 - 9 win over Daniel O’Kane while the
other game between Adam Rankin and Alan Paul was as expected a closely contested game
throughout with Rankin finally squeezing through 7 - 6. In the final Adam Rankin would probably
have been most people’s favourite but Sean Breen continued his run of form to come out on top 12
- 8 and pick up his place in the world bowls singles.
Pairs Championship
It needs to be remembered that the Champion
of Champions is for winners of licensed tour-
naments and that competitors can enter only
one of the four competitions.
The quarter final skips;
Gerry McCabe 11 Daniel O’Kane 3
Colin Glackin 9 Jamie West 7
Gary Burke 11 Geraldine Roullier 5
Sean Trainor 11 Daniel Davidson 6
At the semi-finals stage Donegal’s Colin
Glackin played Oriel’s Gerry McCabe. Oriel
Zone have been the dominant zone in recent
years and their representatives normally as-
sume the role of favourites.
In a keenly contested game it was the Donegal Pairs Champions
pair who came out on top by 9 - 6.
Sean and Kieran Trainor
