“A” Singles for Ireland
Gallagher’s run did not start well, going into the last end
of his singles game against Welshman Osian Elias. The
Irishman led 15 - 14 but Elias struck with a three to win
17 - 15. In the other game Scotland’s G. Allen took singles
on the last two ends to snatch a 14 - 13 win over Eng-
land’s Michael Ivings.
In round two, Gallagher bounced back with a 21 - 13
result over his Scottish opponent. Michael Ivings then
beat Osian Elias by an absolutely stunning 33 - 6 score-
line. He lost the first end but took the next five ends to
lead 15 - 1 and he never looked back. These reverse for-
P J Gallagher “A” series tunes certainly opened up the event and all depended on
singles with IIBA
the next round. In the end this big defeat was to prove
President Flo McNally
very costly for Elias.
With all to play for, Gallagher started in determined form and led 11- 0 after just three ends and
this eventually became 25 - 10, giving Gallagher the singles title. in the other game Elias beat
G. Allen 17 - 14. This gave him four points the same as Gallagher but the previous heavy defeat
to England left him with a shot’s deficit.

finishing with a four and a three. The match for
England’s Steve Bucket & Alaster McCrea
looked very comfortable at 14 - 4 against Wales’

put some respectability on the scoreline con-
ceding just one more shot to lose 10 - 15.
Keith McCulloch, Colum McHugh.
