WEEKEND
The annual Potters Cup Week-
end at Potters Leisure Resort in
Hopton-on-Sea again provided a
feast of bowls, dining & entertain-
ment in the world famous Interna-
tional Arena. With seven triples
finishing on maximum points
“shot difference” was used to de-
termine the finalists of the Potters
Potters Cup Winners Mike Greenacre, Debbie Cup & the Potters Shield.
Phillips & Jon Sparham with Mark Brewer of Potters Essex triple Pauline Pam-
ment of Sanguine, Shirley Minks
of Wickford & Jean Herson of Springhouse competed in the Potters Cup Final against Nor-
folk triple Mike Greenacre of Haddiscoe, Debbie Phillips of Wymondham & Jon Sparham
of Hempnall. After Pauline Pamment drew onto the jack with her second wood the Essex
ladies held on to take a single on the opening end.
Another single followed on
the second end after Jean Her-
son played a great last bowl
chipping the jack across the mat
onto another Essex wood follow-
ing two superb Debbie Phillips
bowls which proved to be in
vain.
The Norfolk triple levelled
the game on the third end after
a super backhand draw by Mike
Greenacre took shot and Deb-
bie Phillips drew in a great sec-
ond bowl. The pressure
mounted on Essex on the fourth
end as Greenacre & Phillips Potters Shield Winners Chris Mann, Debbie Barrett
drew in four good woods and & Jack Barrett with Mark Brewer of Potters
Jon Sparham drew in a fifth.
Jean Herson responded with a deadly attacking bowl to take shot and drew in a sec-
ond to move Essex 4-2 up against the run of play. An inch perfect lead wood by Pauline
Pamment and an equally good second bowl put Sparham in trouble but Phillips & Sparham
both came close to taking shot and cut Essex to another single.
Going into the next end 5-2 down the Norfolk triple knew they needed to win the sixth
end to keep in touch. It proved to be the best end yet as four great opening bowls by Pam-
ment & Greenacre set the stage. Attacking bowls by Phillips & Minks left Sparham holding
one shot but Herson pushed an Essex wood on to the jack.
Jon Sparham attacked to take out the offending Essex bowl but Jean Herson imme-
diately replaced it with another. Sparham had a real pressure wood to play with his final
bowl and his attacking shot paid off big time scoring three shots and making the score 5-5.
