The 3rd and 4th place play off had a dra- 11
matic end and was an all-Ireland affair be-
tween Trevor Turkington and Jim Fox. By the
sixth end Trevor Turkington led 6 - 3 but two two’s
and a single gave Jim Fox an 8 - 6 lead going into
the last end and he seemed to have one hand on
third place trophy but Turkington had other ideas
and struck with a three to snatch a 9 - 8 victory.
It was nice to see some of the other Nations
making progress. Whilst England, Ireland and
Wales took all the trophies between them, Dimitri
Payne was just two points away from a 3rd & 4th
place play off losing only to England and Ireland.
Third placed Singles player Even Closer, Antonio Rinaldi finished level on
Trevor Turkington points with Ireland’s Jim Fox but lost out on shots
difference for a 3rd & 4th place play off slot.

In the Pairs Championships both of the
finalists were pushed hard for their
places. In group “A” the welsh Pair of
Aled Humphreys & Nick Evans only
dropped one point in a 7 - 7 draw with
Ireland but Ireland also had a 9 - 9 draw
with England and this was the decisive
factor in Wales playing in the final and
Ireland scoring a point less and playing
in the 3rd & 4th place play-off.
In Group “B” the English pair of Ben
Render & David Newsome drew with World Pairs Champions
Wales and lost to Ireland but neither of David Newsome & Ben Render
