In the Fours group “A” was by far
the tightest group, with each of the
top three beating each other and
ending up on the same points. In
the end the Irish quartet of
Michael Hand, Fra Dillon, Billy
Taffe & Kevin Conroy finished on
top by virtue of a superior shots
plus.
Group “B” was far more eas-
ily sorted with the unbeaten Welsh
four of Mike John, Cory Williams,
Tom Jones & Ben Haddon finish-
ing as clear group winners.
World Fours Champions Michael Hand,
Fra Dillon, Kevin Conroy & Billy Taffe After a quiet start, the Welsh
four struck with a four and a two
to lead 8 - 2 after five of the scheduled ten ends. by end seven this was 9 - 5 but Ireland struck
back with a single, a three and another single on the last end to level the scores at 9 all and
they continued scoring with a single on the sudden death extra end and with it the World Cham-
pionship with a 10 - 9 victory in a thrilling final.
The 3rd and 4th place play off was also an Ireland v Wales affair, with Paul Reid, Ronald,
Gordon & Raymond Stubbs facing Lisa Rees, Andrew Jones, Edward, Lisa & Peter Rees. De-
spite all the best efforts of the Welsh Four they could not stop the Irish team from steaming
ahead and they finished with a five for a 13 - 4 victory. (Photos - Seamus Kyne)
