12 these teams matched the English pairs other re-
sults leaving Ben & David a point clear and thus
playing in the final. Sadly, an error was made for
second place and Ireland went into the 3rd & 4th
place play-off instead of Wales who should have
gone through by a single shot.
The table in this article was compiled from
the actual scorecards and is not a mistake that
should be made at this level.
World Pairs runners-up
Aled Humphreys & Nick Evans
In the final England’s Render & Newsome played
Wales’ Aled Humphreys & Nick Evans and there
was only a single shot in the game after 4 ends
but Ben Render & David Newsome stepped up a
gear and scored six shots over the next four ends
to lead 9 - 2 with just two ends to go.
Wales needed a minimum of two shots in
order, to play the last end but they only scored a 3rd placed Clarke Hill & Alan Paul
single, which meant they couldn’t win and the England pair became champions at 9 - 3. In the
3rd & 4th place play-off, Ireland “A” in the form of Clarke Hill & Alan Paul recorded a comfortable
11 - 4 victory after scoring five shots over the closing four ends.
IRELAND EDGE THE TRIPLES
IRELAND EDGE THE TRIPLES
Ireland “A” John Murnaghan, Patrick Hanlon, Gerry McCabe, were mainly untroubled in their
group and finished unbeaten, scoring a full 14 points. In group “B” England’s Gareth Townend,
Bronagh Malone & Alan Williams were held to an 8 all draw against Sweden, scoring a single
for the draw on the last end. However, this was the only point they dropped in a very comfortable
win.
