Stress & Physical Health
Another large factor that contributes to stress is poor physical health.
By not getting enough sleep and eating inadequately, the more
stressed and unfocused an individual will be. This is a problem,
especially when having many difficult courses at University of
Waterloo, as the large part of physical health for university students
is getting adequate sleep.
The reason for this is that
when you are tired it is
incredibly difficult to engage in
content, especially when all
you are thinking about is
sleeping. Taking the time to
rest will substantially benefit
your academic performance
because you will be more
alert and engaged in the
material and therefore retain it
better. This is why naps will
greatly lower your stress
when in university.

Stress can cause countless negative emotions which will
eventually affect your work ethic. Promoting positive
behaviour through rewarding yourself will boost your work
ethic. Rewarding yourself will make you more inclined to do
the work because you will know that you will receive a reward
for doing so. It really is up to you how you want to reward
yourself, if that means going out shopping to buy a new pair
of shoes, going out to eat at your favourite restaurant, going
to the movies, or even sleeping! The list can go on and on,
but as long as you are making yourself feel good for
accomplishing your studies, that is all that matters.
