2017 JEWEL FOUR YEAR SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Gustav Showley
Store #3446 - Niles, Meat Apprentice
Loyola University Chicago

According to his Store Director, Gustav consistently leads by example,
demonstrating excellence in customer service. Gustav also takes on
additional responsibility in the Meat Department by coaching, training and
mentoring new Meat Apprentices. Gustav also holds multiple leadership
roles in on-campus organizations such as Secretary of Students for Social
Justice Club, President of Ecology Club, and Vice President of Reaching Out to
Others Club. Gustav’s primary goal for the future is to continue to grow and
build his career, eager to take on developmental opportunities within Jewel-
Osco.

Jonathan Smajo
Store #3051 - Orland Park, Grocery Clerk
DePaul University

Jonathan has been an active volunteer on campus and throughout the
community. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and has volunteered a
number of hours as a religious education teacher. Jonathan enjoys his
experience at Jewel-Osco and is eager to take advantage of the opportunities
available to him. He plans to compete for the Summer Business Internship
Program to help prepare him for the role of a Store Manager Trainee. His
work experience inspired him to pursue a store management career with
aspirations to join the IT Department where he can apply the knowledge 25
learned to continue to make Jewel-Osco a successful company.
