THE TRAVELING PRESIDENT
“My biggest success was in the face to face
contact with the members, of the more than 50
visited clubs ”
MB: Did you ever think to become International President of
the Organization? What motivated you to run ?
DCH: I always thought about it. I think that being a friend of
two Past International Presidents way before I belonged to
the Organization motivated me to achieve this position,
which is coming to an end in a few days. Newly sworn in, I
had the opportunity to attend my first International
Convention and I remember I said directly to the
International President in office that I would become
International President. He said that I had to "take it slow,
there are certain steps that you need to take first”, so I
asked him which were those and the rest is history.
MB: What positive experiences did being an International
President of Active 20-30 International left you?
DCH: Being an International President allowed me to see a
bigger picture of the Organization and observe the different
ways of doing things in the different countries. I realized
that one way is not necessarily better that the others, but
that there are different ways of doing things and that the
only thing that we should have in common, and that should
be a common target in all Associations, is to benefit those
communities in need from each country.
I also learn to appreciate how each of the visited countries
live Active 20-30 mystic and how the customs of the
Organization excited them.
It also gave me the chance to creating great friendships.
People who I had the honor of meeting and passing on the
knowledge I have from of the Organization and that I hope
it serves them to be better leaders and people in
Active 20-30.
MB: During your term, which project or activity marked you
positively?
DCH: I have always felt much passion about the “Telethons”
in the Organization. Those that are done in Panama, Costa
Rica, El Salvador and Nicaragua. This year I had th opportu-
nity to attend both Costa Rica’s and Panama’s. For both
activities in 2016, I had the opportunity of meeting the
voice kids of each event. To sit down and to speak with
each of them was such a gratifying experience, I have no
words to describe it. To listen to the optimism of both girls
on their situation and to compare it with those who often
complain when they do not suffer any physical discomfort
made me reflect on how I see things.
