Mr. Shukair says: “The first step in overcoming
bullying is through spreading awareness
among the parents.” He believes that parents’
understanding and support offer the best
environment for uprooting school bullying.
Communicating love
Parents must understand the most
appropriate ways to effectively communicate
their love to their children. Mrs. El Nahas says
that “Five Languages of Love” book mentions
that each person has his own ways to express
love. These ways revolve around five main
aspects: through gifts, services, time, physical
touch, and kind words.
Mrs. El Nahas says: “Using games,
interactive activities, and time to reflect and
express thoughts help to positively change the
perception of the students.”
Mrs. El Deeb says that she has noticed
that after her daughters have been bullied, they
have started asking her to spend more time
with them. Also, she says that her daughters
have increased their physical touches through
hugging her more frequently. Mrs. El Deeb says:
“I believe that this increase in the physical touch
is derived from their feeling of insecurity.”
Immunity against bullies
Orienting the students to the most
appropriate ways to deal with the bullies, Mrs.
El Nahas says: “Whenever a bully approaches
you, make sure to keep enough space between
both of you, and push him away.” She says
that using phrases, such as “it is not your right
to touch me” and “put your hands down” are
effective in deterring the bullies. Regarding
cyber bullying, Mrs. El Nahas advises the
children and teenagers to reduce their exposure
to the social media. Also, students should be
assured that there is an adult who they can
resort to whenever a problem happens, such as
the counselors and teachers.
To conclude, parents’ reassurance
of support and love are the most effective
rehabilitation cures to their bullied children. In
addition, school principals and administrators
need to acquire the coaching techniques in
dealing with the students to help them find
solutions for their problems without directing
them. Also, solving a problem is unattainable if
the bullied students fear to freely express their
feeling after a bullying situation. Mrs. El Nahas
says: “The real impact happens when a student
decides to stand up and narrate his/her story
of success in overcoming a bullying case to the
other students.”
