THE INTRODUCTION
Grab the attention and give the direction!
Now you know what the heart of your message is.
Before delivering it, you have to find a way to create a good first impression.
▪ The “starter”: Gain their attention
You have to find the right way to build a good relationship with your audience.
A joke is not essential but humour is often very effective.
You have to find a striking way to begin.
Use an image, a metaphor, an anecdote, an open question, a startling statistic.
Be creative, provocative perhaps and original if possible.
The audience has to be pulled into the subject.
People must want to hear more: you need a hook.
▪ The “Force-Idea”: give direction
Tell them where you’re headed. Go to the point.
With your conclusion present in your mind, deliver your core message, your “force-
idea”.
▪ The plan (announce it) : give a route map
Describe the context and give the audience your route map.
Tell them not only WHERE you’re going but HOW you’re going to get there.
An agenda slide is often very useful.
Now that everything is clear and we all know where we’re going and how we are going
to get there, the voyage can begin.
Now your only aim is not to lose them along the way so:
➢ Follow a logical development
➢ Signpost all major transitions
➢ Maintain and develop contact with the audience
