Company Excellence through Matching in Leadership
of dealing with the red employee, you know that he can accept
feedback well and define it for what it is. He rarely feels
personally attacked because he usually has a strong sense of
self-confidence. In addition, he is generally fact- and task-
oriented, professionally committed and likes to be up to date.
He follows current developments and is always "on the ball".
In the example, we also assume that his determining drivers
are the individualistic and theoretical drivers. His striving for
independence is therefore strongly pronounced.
• Step 2 - Consider the results of your own analysis: If you are
a Red yourself (and this is likely based on your activity as a
manager), you are unlikely to have major problems with the
Red employee. Both of you may be secretly happy to have
found an equal partner. However, it can sometimes "pop"
when the red manager meets a red employee. Because both
are dominant, there is a risk of conflict. But as a manager, you
should have the sovereignty to remain in constructive waters.
Overall, however, it is advantageous if there is a match
between the manager and the employee.
• If you are a Yellow, you should take care not to make the relationship with
the co-worker too personal. In this respect, he and you are probably
completely different.
• If you belong to the Greens, you are the "opposite type" of the red
employee. Don't be intimidated - you are the boss!
• This leaves the blue manager: If you are one of them, it is best not to
overwhelm the red employee with too many figures, data and facts.
