Tattoo project
The Board noted that SAPPO was assisting farms to ensure that all tattoo
documents are up to date and available. It became clear during the
process that not all farms were registered or have the required
documents. The same process was followed to assist small-scale farmers
with the tattoo documents.
SAPPO will gather the necessary statistics of producers and pigs in the
process.
Digitalisation of Pork360
The process to digitalise Pork360 was ongoing. Dr Peter Evans did a lot of
work to enable veterinarians to compile the necessary documentation.
SOPs will be saved and sent electronically. All required documents will
be available on the WoP platform.
Mentorships
Mentorship is an ongoing project and 70 small-scale farmers were
registered on the project
The veterinarian programme made veterinarians available to visit the
mentees twice a year and to assist small-scale farmers when and where
necessary.
Ten financial mentorships were currently registered. It was found that
most farmers do not have records. SAPPO was educating them on how
to keep records. The mentees were encouraged to contract someone
to assist them with financial bookkeeping. It is important that they
understand finances.
Export
Dr Peter Evans reported that SAPPO communicated well with
government to get all the documents together and sorted out for the
application submitted.
It was expected that Vietnam would open up soon.
An application was submitted to China to reconsider South Africa’s
application to export to China.
