The National Honor Society Advisor will collate all survey data from the Faculty Evaluation Surveys and
Candidate Forms. Any student receiving the minimum required number of points on the Faculty Evaluation
Survey and Candidate Form will have their name submitted to the Faculty Council for further review. The
National Honor Society Advisor will keep a list of all students who were academically eligible but did not
receive the minimum amount of required points on the Faculty Evaluation Survey and/or the Candidate Form.
Those students’ names will not be submitted to the Faculty Council as they are no longer considered eligible
candidates.
The Faculty Council will consist of five members who will be appointed annually by the Principal.
The Faculty Council will meet to review all information submitted to them by the National Honor Society
Advisor. This information will include the names of the scholastically eligible students who have met the
minimum point requirements, their Candidate Forms and the Faculty Evaluation Surveys. Any other
information that has been brought to the attention of the National Honor Society Advisor regarding an eligible
candidate which could affect the eligibility of that candidate, should also be submitted to the Faculty Council,
including but not limited to, any notice of Policy or Discipline Infractions. After the Faculty Council meets and
fully reviews all information and documents for all eligible candidates, students can then be voted in by
receiving a simple majority of votes from the Faculty Council. These students will be granted admission to the
Overbrook High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. The Faculty Council will provide to the
National Honor Society Advisor a list of the new inductees and a list of student(s) who did not receive the
majority vote and therefore were denied membership.
The Faculty Council will be required to include an explanation, to be recorded within the Faculty Council
Voting Minutes, regarding any student who is not voted in to the Overbrook High School Chapter of the
National Honor Society. The Faculty Council’s explanation will include the name of the student and any
reason(s) given for the non-admittance decision. The Faculty Council Voting Minutes will be kept on file by
the National Honor Society Advisor. The Principal may request the information contained within the Faculty
Council Voting Minutes at any time.
The Principal will act as the first line of communication should a parent(s) contact the school regarding their
child’s non-admittance to the Overbrook High School Chapter of the National Honor Society. Although it is
held that membership is a privilege and not a right, the Principal, at his/her discretion, may offer an explanation
and/or recommendation(s) for improvement using the information contained in the Faculty Council Voting
Minutes. The Principal may also request any and all information from the National Honor Society Advisor
regarding any student who was considered eligible, but was denied membership, for the purpose of responding
to a parent/guardian inquiry.
Those students selected as members of the Overbrook High School Chapter of the National Honor Society will
be given written notification at the completion of the selection process. A formal induction ceremony will be
held after the completion of the second marking period.
Upon selection, NHS members are expected to continue to consistently exhibit the ideals of leadership,
character, service and scholarship. The Chapter will hold meetings and sponsor service projects each school
year. Each member is expected to actively participate in as many of these meetings and/or service projects as
possible to maintain membership and good standing in the National Honor Society.
