eligible for consideration in the current term.
e. All signatures on the Candidate Form must be able to be verified. If the Candidate Form is missing
any signatures, it will be considered an incomplete submission and the student will no longer be
eligible for consideration for membership in the current term.
4. The Faculty Evaluation Survey.
a. The names of the students still eligible for induction after steps 1 through 3 shall be
circulated confidentially to OHS Staff. OHS Staff will be asked to complete a Faculty Evaluation
Survey for any student(s) whom they know from either the classroom or an extracurricular activity
and/or sport (either currently or within the previous twelve (12) month time period).
b. The results of the Faculty Evaluation Surveys shall be tabulated and all Candidate Forms
shall be reviewed and tabulated by the National Honor Society Advisor. Any student(s) receiving
the minimum amount of combined points on the Faculty Evaluation Survey and the Candidate Form
will have their name and forms submitted to the Faculty Council.
5. The Faculty Council. The Faculty Council will determine from the data (surveys, forms, discipline
records, and an updated ranking list) the extent to which each candidate exemplifies each of the four
ideals of the National Honor Society - service, leadership, scholarship and character. When analyzing
the data, the Faculty Council will look for evidence of the maintenance of a cumulative, unweighted
GPA of 3.50 or higher, leadership qualities, a pattern of ongoing service and personal traits indicative of
the four ideals of the National Honor Society. In making its decision, the Faculty Council will also
consider the disciplinary record of each student. It should be noted that when a student is denied
membership into the National Honor Society for any reason, the Faculty Council must cite clear
evidence of deficiency and same should be recorded on the Faculty Council Voting Minutes. Any
student receiving a simple majority of votes (3 out of 5) from the Faculty Council will be granted
admission to the National Honor Society.
6. Notification. At the completion of the review of candidates, all eligible students shall be notified by
letter regarding their selection or non-selection to the Overbrook High School Chapter of the National
Honor Society. An invitation to the induction ceremony will be included with letters to those students
who are selected for membership.
7. Non-Admittance Inquiry. The Principal, in his/her sole discretion, if called upon by a parent or
guardian of any non-admitted student, may discuss the non-admittance of the student. The Faculty
Council Voting Minutes and the National Honor Society Advisor’s list of students who did not
accumulate minimum points will be made available to the Principal for review prior to any meeting
held. As stated in the Constitution of the National Honor Society, “[NHS] chapters are not obligated,
however, to share with parents and students information concerning specific students not selected for
membership in the Society.”
