SPANISH IV
Level: IV – Honors Credits: 05
This course is designed to help the student read Spanish on a deeper level and develop an appreciation of
Hispanic literature. The student is taught to refine speaking and writing skills through discussion and composition.
An effort is made to conduct as much of the class as possible in Spanish. The course provides a general
background of Spanish life and Spanish world culture through the use of native speakers, food fiestas, games, and
multi-media activities. This is a dual credit course with Camden County College. Students who meet college
standards will receive college credit in addition to high school credit. College fees will be applicable for student’s
opting for dual credit. Pre-requisite: Minimum grade of 85 Spanish III.
AP SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
Level: V – AP Credits: 05
This AP Spanish course emphasizes communication (understanding and being understood by
others) by applying the interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life
situations. This includes vocabulary usage, language control, communication strategies, and cultural awareness.
This course strives not to overemphasize grammatical accuracy at the expense of communication. To best
facilitate the study of language and culture, the course is taught almost exclusively in Spanish. The course
engages students in an exploration of culture in both contemporary and historical contexts. The course develops
students' awareness and appreciation of cultural products (e.g., tools, books, music, laws, conventions,
institutions); practices (patterns of social interactions within a culture); and perspectives (values, attitudes, and
assumptions). Pre-requisite: Minimum grade of 90 Spanish III Advanced.
ELECTIVE COURSES
Introduction: The State of New Jersey requires that all high school graduates complete one year of Fine or
st
Performing Arts. Additionally, the State requires one year of 21 Century Life Careers or Career- Technical
Education. Students should discuss these options with their School Counselor prior to making selections.
FINANCIAL LITERACY
Level: II- College Preparatory Credits: 2.5
This course will take into account the increasing complexity of the stock market and economy as well as
evolving roles of the consumer and financial obligations. It will help students become an informed consumer,
set financial goals, create and work with a budget, save and invest for the future, establish credit and use it
wisely, understand banking services, buy cars and homes, secure retirement, protect against fraud, and insure
what is important financially. This course will meet the state requirement in financial literacy for
graduation.
