STAGE PRODUCTION
The objective of this course is to allow students to apply basic and advanced design and construction techniques
to build set pieces and props for the high school fall play and spring musical. Students may be required to work
after school to complete necessary projects related to the course.
THEATRE CONSTRUCTION: FALL
Level II: College Prep Credits: 2.5
Introduces students to the variety and scope of stagecraft while they learn basic shop skills. Students develop
shop vocabulary and learn basic skills, including the safe use of all shop machines, basic handwork skills,
names and uses of tools, and an overview of the various activities that go on in each shop. The class is a hands-
on course that gets students working with the tools and techniques of theatrical production in a practical way. In
each ten week segment, students work on the Fall Play from pre-planning to final curtain. Then the students
must disassemble, organize, repair, and get ready for the next class who will be working on the Spring Musical.

Introduction: The State of New Jersey requires that all high school graduates complete one year of Fine or

Performing Arts. Additionally, the State requires one year of 21 Century Life Careers or Career- Technical
Education. Students should discuss these options with their Guidance Counselor prior to making selections.
VISUAL ARTS
INTRO TO ART
Level: II – College Preparatory Credits: 2.5
This is an introductory course to the visual arts and is designed for students with little or no art background.
The elements and principles of art are taught through the use of a variety of concepts, drawing media, painting,
color theory, design and techniques in perspective. Students will learn about art history and visual art careers.
This course is a prerequisite course for advanced art classes.
