Level: II – College Preparatory

This course is designed to increase proficiency in advanced theatre techniques and prepare students for a career
in theatre. Students will draw from what they have learned from Theatre 1, 2 and 3 to further their understanding
of theatre terminology and technique. The skills focused on during this class will include but not be limited to:
directing techniques from William Ball, historical and abstract design concepts, audition techniques for stage and
film, individualized directing projects, and construction and participation in the annual theatre showcase. Students
can expect a high energy class that will prepare them for college auditions and a professional career in theatre
through a variety of performance and directing opportunities. In addition to the requirements of this class, honors
students will be given additional coursework and performance opportunities as honors level theatre enrichment.

CHAMBER SINGERS
Level: II – College Preparatory Credits: 05
This course is designed to work intensely on developmental issues including tone, intonation and musicianship.
Students will develop the knowledge and skills that strengthen their aesthetic musical awareness. Rotating group
lessons are offered as part of this course to advance each member’s growth. All students are REQUIRED to
participate in the scheduled concerts throughout the school year. In the spring students will have the opportunity
to audition for Overtones for the following year.
Pre-requisite: One year of Concert Choir
CONCERT BAND
Level: IV – Honors Credits: 05
The honors band will provide advanced ensemble experience for the instrumental music student. The
development of techniques, interpretation, intonation and general musicianship will be emphasized. Working on
solo etudes and small ensemble music. The purpose of the course is to build a musical organization which will be
a credit to the individual members, the school and the school community. Students taking this course should
realize that the course requires attendance at all public performances and demands that the student be available
for after school rehearsals. In addition, Honors students will be encouraged to audition for All South Jersey Honors
Bands and All State Honors bands. They must meet the Honors prerequisite.
Pre-requisite: Ability to play a wind/percussion instrument at an advanced level as determined by an audition
session.
Level: II – College Preparatory Credits: 05
The band will provide ensemble experience for the instrumental music student. Students who are interested
in starting and instrument should take this class. New students will be encouraged to have two or three choices
on an instrument they would like to pursue in the event one is not available or over populated. The emphasis of
the ensemble will be placed on developing technique, interpretation, intonation and general musicianship. The
purpose of the course is to build a musical organization which will be a credit to the individual members, the
school and the school community. Students taking this course requires attendance at all public performances and
occasional after school rehearsals/concerts.
Pre-requisite: Ability to play a wind/percussion instrument determined by an audition session.
