decisions of his time. Clearly, the Spirit of GOD led him
to his quick and firm decision to recognize Israel as a
nation. On May 14, 1948 Israel’s first Prime Minister,
David Ben-Gurion, declared Israel as a nation. On that
same day, President Truman acted promptly and

decisively to recognize Israel’s statehood [20-22] . He
affirmed that the full resources of the most powerful
nation in the world stood firmly with Israel. By doing so,
President Truman played a pivotal role in the fulfillment
of the ancient Biblical prophecy, the rebirth of Israel
after nearly 2,000 years of scattering; “Can a nation be
born in one day?” (Is. 66:8)

Much has been written about how President Truman
made this momentous decision. He did it with his usual
decisiveness despite having enormous opposition from a

number of highly prominent advisors within and outside
his administration [21-22] . His decision proved to be
among the greatest decisions of the ages.

It is amazing that GOD seldom picks the most

credentialed of society to carry out HIS plans. President
Harry Truman was the only President in the 20th century
who didn’t earn a college degree. Yet, he was an
exceptional thinker who could make hard decisions and
stand with them. His decision to recognize Israel went
against the advice of many of the powerful and elite

advisers who surrounded him. Clearly, GOD raised him
up with the temperament for the purpose for which he
was to serve. President Truman had to make the tough
decisions, stick with them, and not look back!
