[Gen. 15:13] As Abraham proved his obedience, GOD
told him that his descendants would sojourn as
strangers in a foreign land for 400 years. Then GOD gave
Abraham two assurances. HE would judge the nation
whom Abraham’s descendants would serve, and HE

would bring them out with great possessions. We see
GOD’s promises fulfilled in the Books of Genesis and
Exodus.

Genesis Chapters 37-47 give the details of how
Abraham’s grandson, Jacob and his sons went to Egypt
and how their descendants became enslaved. As GOD
promised, HE punished Egypt severely for their cruelty
to the children of Israel. HE raised Moses to orchestrate
the ten plagues that HE placed upon Pharaoh and his
people (Exodus 7-12). Then, just as GOD promised,
Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt with great
possessions; silver, gold, clothing and livestock. These

items were given to them by Egyptians (Exodus 13:25-
36). Exodus 12:40 affirms that Jews sojourned as
captives in Egypt for a total time span of 430 years.

[Gen. 35:9-15] GOD extended HIS covenant to Jacob,
whom HE named Israel.

[Gen. 35:9-15] We know that GOD’s covenant with
Abraham was everlasting. HE extended the Covenant to
Abraham’s son Isaac, and later to Isaac’s son Jacob.
GOD gave Jacob a new name, Israel. Jacob’s descendants
are modern-day Israel, the apple of GOD’s eye. All that

GOD promised was fulfilled (Gen. 17:19-21).
