Among the numerous prophecies that were fulfilled
during that period, Isaiah prophesied the Judean fall to
Babylon (Is. 39:5-6). Most astoundingly, Isaiah also
prophesied that GOD would raise Cyrus (Is. 44;28, Is.
45:1-13) to deliver Israel back from Babylon captivity.
Isaiah’s prophecy not only named Cyrus, he also foretold
details of Cyrus’ life as a shepherd leading to his destiny.
Isaiah was given this vision more than 160 years before
Cyrus was born. Cyrus fulfilled his appointed mission
given by GOD; shortly after he conquered Babylon and
slew King Belshazzar (circa 539 BC), Cyrus freed the Jews
to return home without bond or payment. He even
ordered funding to be given to cover the restoration of
Jerusalem and the Temple that Nebuchadnezzar had
destroyed in 586 BC.
Jeremiah prophesied many things that would later take
place throughout the Judean Kingdom leading up to and
including the captivity. Among the many things that
Jeremiah foretold; he set forth the length of time that
Israel would remain in captivity. Their captivity would
last for 70 years (Jer. 25:11). Both Isaiah and Jeremiah
foretold that GOD would destroy Babylon after the years
of captivity for the cruelty they would inflict on the Jews
(Is. 13:17-19, Is. 14:3-11) and (Jer. 51:1-5). These are
merely a few of the many prophecies that were foretold
and fulfilled during this period.
