Corruption of Bribery
Chapter 6 : Corruption in the “Carbon World”
However, scientists at the Cambridge Scott Polar Research Unit dismissed the reports as twaddle and refuted by
satellite data. In the ensuing ruckus it emerged that HarperCollins had badly “misinterpreted” data on ice
thickness produced by the National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado.
A representative of the Centre stated that he was "surprised by the mistake because lots of people in the US and
Europe ……. could have steered the Atlas away from this high‐profile statement as …… the melting is nowhere
near this level". When the representative was asked whether he thought the exaggeration was a mistake he went
immediately on the attack and blamed the sceptic community, saying that its “mission is to throw (in) a wrench
and create confusion".
The truth is that confusion was initiated by gross and possibly fraudulent exaggeration by global
warming believers and had nothing whatsoever to do with the "sceptic community". But like so
many things in the global warming area, distortion triumphs over truth because, after all: “it’s a
noble cause: innit?”
A carry ‐over from earlier Chapters of this book is also important to bear in mind. The first is that
perverted decisions, massive losses or windfall gains are nearly always the result of:
A mistake
A “Dodgy Dossier”
Distortion of a “noble cause”
Corruption
In the “Carbon World” there are lots of the above.
1.6 Corporate Positioning
Companies are involved in the “Carbon World” in many ways with each one facing risks of fraud
and corruption.
