Chapter 6 : Corruption in the “Carbon World”

The earth has always warmed and cooled and often far more dramatically than in recent times
and carbon dioxide concentrations have been ten times higher when the planet was covered in
ice. Humans adapt to temperature changes and there are parts of the world that vary as much as
40C without causing too many problems.

Have you ever noticed how no one states what the average global temperature is supposed to
be? All that is ever mentioned is the alleged rise in decimals of a degree. What do you think the
reason for this might be?

PRINCIPLE
The easiest way to hide the truth is to produce statistics as percentages or percentage changes.
Such are the metrics in the "Carbon World"

3.2 The Hockey Stick
The most dramatic “evidence” for alleged temperature rises being caused by anthropogenic
emissions (rather than from natural causes, if at all) was produced by Michael E Mann in 1998,
then in an adjunct faculty position at the University of Massachusetts in the Department of

the University of Massachusetts and Malcolm K Hughes a meso‐climatologist and Regent’s

Professor of Dendronology at the University of Arizona (This is often referred to as the “MBH

Hockey Stick”) and in its original form was limited to the “Northern Hemisphere and was
prefaced with a number of caveats).

The “Hockey Stick ” became THE icon for the “global warming” cause and was seized upon by
Albert Arnold Gore, Jr, the IPCC and the US environmental movement, creating great concern
and reinvigorated efforts to tackle a potentially catastrophic problem. The visual was then
reframed as “Global Warming” rather than sticking to its original “Northern Hemisphere”
limitation and many of MBH’s caveats were redacted. Both “spins” made the “Hockey Stick”
even more dramatic.
