in going 011 record as procuring a discount to the broker, V\ e
sliould recognize the broker, and this twelve and a half per cent
should applv to the man carrying the stock and wipe out the other

                   man.
Mr. P u ch ta : If I should speak 011 this subject I would say
don't protect the broker. 1 believe the machinery men have
covered their re-sales well and wisely in their differential of
twelve and a half per cent for stock, and I believe that if they
agree to it I haven't any doubt that the members of this Associa
tion will find it will be productive of even greater profit to them.
It seems to me that it would be best (and I should think so if I
were a machinery man) that that five per cent proposition should
                   be stricken out altogether.
Now, in saying that I can also realize that there may be
times when conditions would arise where certain conditions or
certain territory might not be fully covered. Now, if your
machinery men and your manufacturers get together, would not
all of that trouble be covered by a list of men handling machinery?
There may be in that list a few who would not be carrying stock
and who might for different reasons be entitled to that twelve
and a half per cent, but with the distinct understanding that it has
to be kept, and they must practice by the re-sale price the same
as any one else. It seems to me if that list was made up as to
who were entitled to the twelve and a half per cent, it would
                   eliminate the broker.

Mr. Rrion : I move to amend this resolution by striking out
that portion which refers to the five per cent.
Mr. C la rk e : Would not it do to have dealers quote 110
figures to any one not a dealer? They stated no discount shall be
given to any one other than their recognized dealer, and that their
recognized dealer shall not quote any one else. It seems to me
it would warrant us in striking that out although we hoped to
make it a start by putting it in.
M r. Rrion : I want to correct mv statement about the list
price. I want to amend by striking out “five per cent from."
M r. J ohnston: There are no doubt some supply men who
do not call themselves machinery dealers. Thev might carrv
