a contract, and then to submit same by mail through the Secretary
of our Association to our members. Our Committee carried out
its instructions, but unfortunately the Secretary of our Associa
tion goes to Europe, and the Committee has not as yet been
advised as to the result of the letter ballot on the contract.
It is the writer's opinion, that the Convention held subse
quently in New York, which was not a representative convention
of our Association, but rather a special meeting of several
interests, were out of order when they took up for consideration
the contract. I understand that they laid the matter on the table.
I am writing you this, so that you may know the position of
the special committee. I do not think that the action taken in
New York, in laying this report on the table, represents the real
sentiment of our Association, and I am sure that many manufac
turers are heartily in accord with the principles embodied in this
contract and will be willing to subscribe to such contract at the
                      proper time.
                                                         Very truly yours,

                                                                         F red A. Ge ie r.
M r. A nderson : 1 have here lists of the members of the
American Supply and Machinery Manufacturer’s Association
revised to February 1st, 1906, and shall be pleased to supply you
                      with copies.
M r. B rion : I think it would be proper to have a resolution
read which they passed at that meeting.

                            M r. S c o t t: I would like to know whether some of their
competitors have had people buying machines from another state-
for instance, if Mr. Pattison had the exclusive sale for Cincinnati,
and Mr............................... concern should write to New York and
buy that machine— whether you have had any experience. Per-
sonallv, I have had a bitter experience along that line.
M r. B rown : It is a question of protective territory, and

                      that would cover it.
                            M r. S h i p l e y : If Mr. Brown will read that clause of
                       yesterday, it will enlighten him.
P resident S tro n g: I know that was agreed to by the
members of the Association in their session at New York. That
