Tlir Xalional Supply and Machinery Dealers’ Association

Mr. IY ciita : I thought of that, but, inasmuch as we have so
many manufacturers that we want to get into line, the rebate plan
is not going to appeal to some of them right awav as much as the
re-sale plan will. The object of the resolution was to show some
recognition of our appreciation of what the manufacturers have
done up to the present time.

M r. M cI ntosh : I think the suggestion you make as to the
rebate plan is a very reasonable one. I do not think you ought
to support the manufacturers unless on a rebate plan. Read it
with “ rebate plan” instead of “ re-sale price.”
M r. A nderson : “Resolved that this Convention of the
National Supply & Machinery Dealers’ Association heartily
endorses the action of the manufacturers who have established
the rebate plan on their goods.
“Be it further resolved that the members of this Association
co-operate with such manufacturers in every possible manner to
                        encourage and establish this policy.”

M r. B rion : There are no manufacturers who have adopted
the rebate plan, and this resolution, as I understand, refers to
those who have done something for us already.

P resident S trong : There is some reason to suppose that
the manufacturers would not be pleased to have that tacked on.
I know that from conversation we have had with some of them.
I believe another motion can be passed which will cover that
question, instructing the Secretary to take this up with the differ
ent manufacturers, and induce them, if possible, to adopt the
rebate plan in connection with the re-sale price. I think, perhaps,
it would be proper to put the question, and let the Convention do
                        what it pleases.

M r. M cI ntosh : If you do it, what protection have you
from anybody except members of this Association? There is a
concern in Cleveland not pledged in any way to support you, and
you know we can’t sell goods at a higher price than they.

I would like to see the resolution go back to Mr. Puchta.
                              M r. P u c h t a : I would recommend that that resolution be
referred to a committee to fix it up.
