The Xiiti&mi Supply ami Machinery D ealers’ . Association

Mu. r>KKi.\ : 1 understand it is simply between the manu-

I'aetnrer and the man with the office in his hat.

Mu. I>r.\i>,ey : May that resolution he re-read? As I under
                                       i
stand the situation now, a recognized dealer may bur from a
manufacturer and receive his discount, twelve and a half per
cent, provided the manufacturer is not tied up in any particular
market with an exclusive agency. If a manufacturer is tied up
in Xew York with an exclusive agency, as I understand, the
exclusive agent would not he permitted to make a price to any
other dealer in the vicinity at a profit, and it seems it would work
an injustice both ways. The dealers who are so unfortunate as
to find such a situation would find it a hardship, and the other
dealers would he very antagonistic to the sale of the goods so
controlled, and the effect of that is hound to be very hard.

.Mr. S c o tt: The motion is that the resolution he referred
to the committee, and all this talk is out of order.

                            P r e s i d e n t S t r o n g : Y o u a r e r i g h t . All i n f a v o r o f r e f e r

                            Unanimously carried.

P resid en t S tro n g : There is another section to this resolu
tion. Ilte Secretary will read it.
                            M r. An p e r s o n : “Also that any article of machinery the
re-sale price of which is $100 or less he subject to a discount of
not less than twenty per cent to the selling agent or dealer f. o. b.
factorv, and that the latter pledge himself to maintain this differen
                      tial price.”

                            M r. F a r o u iia r : 1 would like to ask, does that state it shall
not be less than twenty per cent, and does the dealer pledge him
self to maintain this differential whatever it may be?
                            P r e s i d e n t S t r o n g : Yes.
                            M r. F a r q u iia r : If there is a discount of thirty or forty

per cent, does the dealer pledge himself to do so?
                            P r e s i d e n t S t r o n g : Would not it be better to further amend
it by saying the dealer pledges himself to maintain the establisheo
                       ■ clling price ?
