Using the Mathematical Practices and Process Skills to
Building Engaging and Fun Centers
In this presentation we will use everyday games and manipulatives to discuss and create
centers that support both the mathematical practices and the process skills. This approach not
only offers multiple entry levels for differentiation but also increases student engagement and
success. Creating centers based on the practices and process skills allows teachers to change
negative math mindsets through the lens of play. We will discuss and brainstorm how learning
through play during centers with multiple entry points will empower students to engage in
mathematic communication and build their perseverance to problem solve.
