               who bought it from the artist in 1990. 58"x75½" Fabric: Cotton and a crisp, firm, slick fabric, perhaps heav-
               ily starched. Batting: Medium weight cotton. Backing: Slick, crisp, firm lavender fabric, perhaps cotton
               heavily starched. Edge: The lavender back is brought to the front ¾" to 1" and caught by hand. Piecing:
               Blocks and sashes are assembled by machine. Appliqués are done by hand and have raw edges. Quilting:
               In irregular and slightly crooked lines slightly off horizontal across the quilt. Condition: Very good. There
               is faint yellowing underneath the lower left donkey. Comment: The artist is featured in The Encyclopedia
               of American Folk Art and on a website for the Yazoo County, Miss. convention and trade center. She lived
               1916-2000. Her work has been widely exhibited. Several of her works are documented, and she is profiled,
               in the book Signs and Symbols, African Images in African-American Quilts (Wahlman, 1993). This quilt was
               appraised on the "Antiques Roadshow" in Spokane, WA on June 6, 2015. After referrring to the to the
               website for the Slotkin Folk Gallery, the appraiser valued the quilt at $1,200 and said that since the maker
               died in 2000, the value would increase.
