Chains
LEFT: Irish Chain 1930s top; 1980s completion. Top purchased in Woodinville, WA in 1987 or 1988, com-
pleted by the quilting ladies of the North Fork of the Siuslaw River at Florence, OR. 65"x98" Fabric: Cotton.
Batting: Low loft; unknown, probably cotton. Backing: Pink cotton sheet. Edge: Pink machine made, applied
by Alma Tatum of the quilting group. Piecing: By hand. Quilting: By hand in straight lines 1.5" apart fol-
lowing the pattern of the quilt. White blocks are quilted in a square. Condition: Excellent. Comment: While
the quilt was in the frame, the grandson of one of the quilters offered to take it to his home in Boston
where he thought he could sell it for thousands of dollars. In the 1980s it was unusual to see such a great
quilt top; not now with internet.
