Burgoyne Surrounded 1930’s calico back; red and white can be as old as 1890s. Purchased from Fourth
Corner Antiques (Ashland, OR) via eBay in 2013. 82"x82" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Medium weight. Backing:
Cotton calico. Edge: A red tape is attached ¼" to each side by hand. Piecing: By machine. Quilting: By hand,
7 stitches to the inch, in wreaths with 3/4" center grid in the white fields. The larger red blocks are quilted
with a 1¾" grid. The nine-patch connecting blocks are quilted with lines through the diagonals. Condition:
Very good. Some of the red has transferred onto adjacent white blocks. Comment: Popular among collectors
of upscale quilts. The seller noted a faint pinkish haze to the white due to color transfer.
