between the two that was causing his shaking. He walked away sad, but no
longer shaking, and I believe he learned from the experience.
Simply noticing and playing with options are powerful tools for freeing
yourself from your gremlin’s outdated shoulds and oughts. Doing battle
with the shoulds, oughts, and musts will lock you into an internal battle with
your gremlin, and you’ve already learned:
When you begin to grapple with your gremlin, he has defeated you.
Precisely what he wants is your attention. As long as you are interacting
with him beyond simply noticing him, your energy will not flow freely. It
will be tied up in a duality, your life will be much less enjoyable than it
could be, and you will feel anything but peace and contentment within.
When you hear a should, must, or ought in your head, consider replacing it
in your thoughts and language with a choose to or choose not to. Again, the
idea here is to channel your energy to the natural you and away from your
gremlin; that is, to place you, yourself, at choice.
