The Essence of It All:
True Love
There is your gremlin. And there is the natural you. The essence of the
natural you has many names, none of which can circle it. Earlier we called
it life, your life. Another term I’ve often used for it is true love.
No description of the experience of true love can do justice to its glory.
True love is both subtly and powerfully perfect. True love is not a thought
(though certainly you can have loving thoughts). True love is an experience.
True love is trustworthy. Just as the sun is always shining whether you can
see it or not, true love exists within you always, whether or not you are
attentive to it.
When true love comes into your awareness, it permeates your
experience and you feel content, peaceful, and satisfied.
The experience of true love is always available to you, though I’ll be the
first to admit it is easier to tap into and enjoy under some circumstances
than others. Getting that sliver of light between you and your gremlin
certainly helps.
Experiencing true love does not require something or someone to love
—though you may feel true love inside yourself in the presence of certain
people and things. Nor do you ensure yourself a large dose of true love by
smiling a lot, talking softly, or hugging people with whom you’d rather just
shake hands and say hello.
