Assignments
Assessed work is referred to as assignments. They are a bit like coursework that you might
have completed in school. They are very important and each one counts towards your
final grade, like an exam. You will receive information for each unit which will let you know
what tasks you need to complete in order to pass. Some units contain 2, 3 or 4 tasks. You
need to complete each task and pass in order to pass the unit. All units need to pass in
order to pass the whole course. In Health and Social Care assignments are completed
electronically and are uploaded to Canvas. A video will be available to show you how to
do this.
Exams/Controlled assessments
Depending on which Health and Social Care course you are studying, you might have
exams or a controlled assessment to complete, or you might have to complete both. It is
very important that you take notes in class, ask questions if you don’t understand and
revise thoroughly beforehand. For your controlled assessment you will be allowed to
prepare in advance and will be given instructions on how to do this.
Grade tracking grid
Once you have completed an assignment your grades will be uploaded to Cedar. You will be able to keep a track
of your grades. Your parents/guardians will also be able to access these.
Organising your work electronically
Find out what units you will be studying this year for your Health and Social Care course
and write them down. You will need the unit number, the name and the teacher.
Most units will have a substantial amount of assignment work which needs to be
completed. You will need to create an electronic file for each unit and include the name
of the teacher who will delivering each unit. To help you keep your work organised
throughout the first year, please make sure that you save any completed tasks and
assignments in the right file. Some of the units will be examined (see table)
