ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSIONS
All of your work will be submitted electronically through the college Cedar/Canvas
programme. For each piece of work you will be given a deadline date and a time by
which the work should be submitted. You will be shown how to submit your work during
induction.
MARK BOOK
It is important that you keep track of your progress and final grades for each unit. To help
you do this, you will have your own mark book to keep up to date throughout the year.
Your mark book will include all the criteria for each unit and the grading system.
STUDY SKILLS
Studying at level 3 requires a slightly different set of skills from school. They are all
achievable but some of them you need to practice
Here are some examples:
• Time management: A level 3 course has a lot more elements to it compared to
what you will have experienced at GCSE. You may need several assignments in a
short space of time, as well as revise for an exam. This is why managing your time
effectively is an important study skill that you will quickly need to master
• Planning and organising an assignment/an exam question: Before you start to write
an assignment or answer an exam question you will need to plan what you are
going to say. You might want to use a mind map or a flow chart to do this.
• Revision skills: You will need some practice at revising, as many of you will not have
had an opportunity to sit an exam recently.
• Research skills: Finding the correct information can be difficult if you aren’t sure
how to research properly.
• How to reference your assignments properly: At level 3, all work must be in your own
words. If it is not, this is known as plagiarism. Even if you don’t copy and paste, it is
plagiarism if you use someone else’s idea without acknowledging it. We use a
referencing system known as Harvard and depending on which Health and Social
Care course you are doing, you might lose marks if you don’t use it correctly.
INITIAL ASSIGNMENT
You will have already been given an initial assignment to complete prior to starting
college. It is very important that this is completed and handed in before the deadline as it
will be marked. If you have any questions about this initial assignment, it is important that
they are asked as soon as possible.
