Poultry
 Poultry – Rearing and breeding of avian species like chicken, turkey, geese and guinea- fowls.
 Good converters of feed into animal protein.
 90% for poultry are occupied by chicken.
 Types- American breeds, Asiatic breeds, English Breeds, Mediterranean breeds and
Indigenous breeds.
 American breeds – Rhode Island reds, Plymouth Rock, New Hampshire and Wyandotte
are main breeds.
 Asiatic breeds – Belongs to Asian continent. Used for egg and meat purpose.
 Brahma, Light and Dark Brahma are its types.
 English breeds – Originated from England. Pink coloured earlobes and brown shelled eggs.
 Sussex, Orpington, Australorp and Cornish are main breeds of this type.
 Mediterranean breeds – Originated from European countries.
 Leghorn and Ancone are main breeds of this class.
 Indigenous breeds – ‗Desi‘ is the common country hen of India.

 Aseel, Chittagong, Karaknath and Busra are main breeds of this type.

Fish farming
 Fish culture under the term ‗aquaculture‘.
 Fish farming - rearing of fish for personal income or profit.
 Categorized as fresh water fish farming, brackish water fish farming, salt or marine water
fish farming.
 Carps, Catfish, Murrels, and Tilapia are main cultureal fishes.
 Carps (Kendai) – Catla, Rohu, Mrigal.
 Catfish - Also called as Keluthi.
 Koduva, Madavai are marine fishes.
 Fish pond – Best harvesting by proper construction and preparation of fish pond.
 Types: Nursery (3%), Rearing (11%), Production (60%), Segregation (1%) and Breeding
ponds (25%).
 Feed and water quality are major factors for fish culture pond.
 Temperature at 25-33 degree Celsius, hardness, alkalinity and plankton culture are the
regulation of water quality.

 Indicates fluid in lungs in case of pneumonia and pulmonary oedema.
