anything wrong for which he should be punished. It is another thing
to say that he must have done something wrong in previous births to
get a life like this in this birth. But it is not right to say that he is
without any luck.
I will give an example.
A lot of times when people do not get back the desired results which
is proportionate to the hard work they have put in, they say that luck
did not favour them. But think of it in this way, they still have
intelligence and they still have the opportunity to work hard. Is this
not their good luck? Are not those people lucky to have the chance
to study, food to eat and a roof over their head? Aren’t they lucky
because they have good health and a good family? Just because
you did not get the desired result in an examination, it will be wrong
on your part to put the blame on your fate or luck, whatever you may
call it—it would be an act of disrespecting the Almighty who has
given you so much. If you don’t work hard and then blame your luck,
who is at fault?
"It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves." -William
Shakespeare
Someone who has failed in the examination, says so easily that he
had bad luck. What is the parameter to measure luck? Is there a
measuring cylinder to measure the ‘goodness’ or ‘badness’ of your
luck? If a student had read something specific which was later asked
in the question paper, you would say that he was lucky. And if you
cannot answer a question because you did not revise well, you will
put the blame on your luck. If you have been studying since a very
long time, how come your friend ended up reading something which
was asked in the question paper, that you could not study in all these
years? How did he find and read something so specific from the
book or syllabus? We use the terms lucky and unlucky very easily; it
is like declaring that a movie is good or bad after watching the first
five minutes only.
