How does the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) work?
It’s easier than you think. First, you decide how much to set aside in your Health Care and/or Dependent
Care account for the plan year. That number, your annual election, is divided by 52 pay weeks (or the
number of pay weeks remaining in the year) and deducted equally from each pay before taxes are taken
out. Your contributions are returned to you tax-free when you use your debit card or submit reimbursement
claims for qualified expenses. It’s easy, convenient, and tax free!
How do I use the money in my account?
SSC’s FSA plan includes a prepaid FSA debit card that can be used for reimbursement. There are two ways
you can use your funds to pay for qualified expenses:
• Simply use the card at the point of sale to access your FSA funds to pay for eligible medical expenses.
• If you do not use the card for your expense, you can be reimbursed by submitting a completed claim form
(available online at cda.basiconline.com) with a copy of the medical or dependent care receipt showing
the amount of expense and date of service.
• BASIC will reimburse you directly by check or direct deposit to your bank account. Claims can be
submitted online, mailed, faxed, or emailed to BASIC.
