By Juanita Adame
Mid Valley Times
Several patrol cars and crime scene tape sur- rounded the Downtown Smoke Shop in Reedley on the morning of Nov. 1 following an armed rob- bery inside the business.
According to the Reedley Police Department, at approximately 10:34 a.m. a subject entered the business — located on 11th Street between G and I streets — wearing a mask and holding a handgun. The man then demanded money from the cashier.
For an unknown reason, the man fired one round inside the location. No one was injured following the discharge of the weapon, and the man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. A nearby witness told police he saw the man running from the business on G Street. No description of the man has been given by police.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Reedley Police Department at (559) 637-4250.

The Dinuba City Council earlier last month approved a Proposition 68 grant application bid to try to obtain up to $3 million to fund the Ridge Creek Pedes- trian and Bike Interpretive Trail.
At the Oct. 12 regular council meet- ing, the council voted 4-0 (District 4 member Kuldip Thusu was absent) to submit the application for money from the Rural Recreation and Tourism Pro- gram Grant program. Up to $3 million could be available from the fund.
Daniel James, assistant city manager, made a presentation for the pedestrian and bike interpretive trail project at the meeting. He share details of the walk-
ing trail at Ridge Creek Golf Course that would be funded by the Prop 68 grant, which provides money to rural com- munities that lack outdoor recreation activities.
James told the council that a public outreach was being conducted and that a design of the project is being drafted. That project design will be presented to the council when completed.
Also at the Oct. 12 meeting, the council also voted 4-0 to authorize the expenditure of a 2021 Citizens Option for Public Safety (COPS) grant in the amount of $100,000. Devon Popovich, Dinuba police chief, said the total cost of a full-time officer is $141,763. The grant covers $100,000 of the salary, with the remaining amount paid from the city's general fund.
Highlights from the Dinuba council's Oct. 26 meeting included the presenta- tion of the "Pink Patch Project" donation of $2,500 to the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center. The donation was made in hon- or of breast cancer awareness, and the project is known throughout the Central Valley for law enforcement departments designing their own unique pink patches.
Consent agenda items on the relative- ly light agenda included a request for a one-year time extension for the Castro Estates Tentative Subdivision Map. The subdivision consists of 77 single family residential lots located on 19.2 acres situ- ated on the west side of Englehart Ave- nue, south of the Saginaw Way alignment.
The next Dinuba City Council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9.
